What happens when you submit
Most people don’t report because they assume nothing happens to it.
It reaches your regulator
- The medicines authority in your own country
- A named person reads it
It joins the global database
- Forwarded to WHO's VigiBase in Uppsala
- And to EudraVigilance inside Europe
- Which already holds finasteride reports from 153 countries
It gets scanned for patterns
- Statisticians ask: is this reaction more common than chance allows?
- They can only scan reports that exist
It can force a review
- A strong enough signal triggers one
- That is how the FDA revised finasteride's label in 2011
- “I can’t prove it was the drug.”
- “It was years ago.”
- “My doctor disagreed.”
- “Someone will already have reported it.”
