Two weeks of Lion’s Mane
Ryan took Lion’s Mane for about 2 weeks. He says he started it because it was widely promoted as a safe supplement that could improve focus and concentration.
He says he took it without knowing of any significant risk.
Near the end of those 2 weeks he had his first ever panic attack. His health declined sharply from there, and he says the symptoms carried on long after he stopped taking it.
What Ryan describes
- Severe insomnia, at first only one or two hours a night.
- Panic attacks and intense anxiety.
- Memory problems, brain fog, and headaches through the day.
- Internal vibrations, muscle stiffness, and loss of sensation in parts of his body.
- Loss of libido and of genital sensation.
Moral Medicine says the mechanism behind what Ryan describes is not known, and that whether it is related to other post-drug syndromes has not been established.
Before this, Ryan describes himself as a high-functioning 30-year-old with a steady job, a loving relationship, savings and plans for a family. He says he has since lost the job and the relationship, and spent tens of thousands of dollars looking for answers.
He has seen neurologists, psychiatrists, rheumatologists and his own family doctor, and has had MRI scans and private blood tests. He says he has found few answers. He later started an online Lion’s Mane recovery community, where others have reported similar symptoms.
