Donate to PSSD Research
Support ongoing research into PSSD. As a neutral charity, we facilitate direct donations to research studies and provide links to our partners’ websites for more information. Thank you for your consideration.
RxISK
RxISK’s PSSD Research Fund supports three pivotal projects aimed at understanding and treating persistent sexual dysfunction:
- Prof. Luisa Guerrini’s Study: Investigating the impact of SSRIs, isotretinoin, and 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors on ACE2 receptors and p63 proteins. This research could explain links to sexual dysfunction and peripheral neuropathy.
- Corneal Confocal Microscopy Study: Conducted in the UK, this study uses advanced imaging to explore nerve cell abnormalities in PSSD patients, alongside other neuropathy assessments.
- Transcranial Photobiomodulation Therapy: This trial examines the potential of photobiomodulation to improve sexual function and genital sensation in PSSD patients, marking its first use in this context.
Your support and donations fuel these projects, helping them uncover new treatments and potentially mitigate the side effects of common medications.
PSSD Network
The PSSD Network supports Dr. Melcangi’s research into PSSD and PFS, focusing on:
- Gene Expression: Identifying affected genes in treatment and withdrawal phases using mRNA sequencing.
- Peripheral Neuropathy: Examining nerve changes to understand genital numbness in PSSD patients.
- MicroRNAs as Biomarkers: Exploring MicroRNAs’ potential as diagnostic tools for PSSD.
- Enzyme Inhibition: Investigating enzyme inhibition by SSRIs and 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, suggesting shared biochemical pathways.
- Brain Pathways: Analyzing brain areas linked to sexual dysfunction through rodent tests.
- Gut-Brain Axis: Studying SSRIs’ impact on gut microbiota and brain function.
This research aims to reveal the biological mechanisms behind PSSD and PFS, opening avenues for potential treatments.
